Altus Engineering Team modernizes two important HPPs

Altus Engineering Team modernizes two important HPPs

Even with the constant emergence of different alternative energy sources, hydroelectric plants with storage reservoirs remain the main energy projects in Brazil. Today, HPPs account for around 60% of all energy generated in the country, and Altus technology is responsible for an important percentage of this production. For over 30 years, present in the national Electric Energy, our products are used by the main players in the sector as a control and data acquisition solution in Generation, Transmission and Distribution processes.

One of the most recent projects being led by our Engineering team is the modernization of the UACs (Control and Automation Units) of the Substation and Auxiliary Services at UHE Fontes Novas, a Light Group part of the Lajes Complex. Located in Ribeirão das Lajes, southeast region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, the plant has three generating units that, together, deliver an installed capacity of 132 MW. The upgrade being implemented by our team of experts aims to increase integrity and operational reliability, while promoting the standardization of HPP systems, enabling better conditions of preventive and corrective maintenance.

TAF registration at UHE Santa Branca, carried out in October 2020

The projected modernization will replace the AL-2000 PLCs, which currently control the Substation and Auxiliary Services UACs, with Hadron Xtorm Series UTRs. This same replacement process was carried out in Generating Units A, B and C of the plant, between 2018 and the beginning of 2020. Since then, the units have been operating based on Hadron Xtorm technology and complete integration with the CAO (Operation Service Center) and the COG (Generation Operation Center).

Another Light venture that also had its technology base updated with Hadron Xtorm products was UHE Santa Branca. The plant project encompasses the complete modernization of the SDSC, covering everything from the supply of the UACs of Generating Units 1 and 2, the Substation and Auxiliary Services, to the development of the application of the CLP and the supervision system. The project's TAF, conducted by the Altus team and with the presence of the client's engineers and technicians, was carried out in October last year at the Panel Factory, in Sapucaia do Sul/RS.

Hadron Xtorm Module

Hadron Xtorm: robustness and performance for GTD processes

Developed based on international standards IEC 61850 and IEC 61131-3, Hadron Xtorm products feature outstanding features, such as power supply redundancy, CPU redundancy in a backstage, DNP3 and IEC 61850 protocols (MMS and GOOSE) and compliance with ONS submodule 2.7. Recently, Altus' consolidated family of Remote Terminal Units gained a new member: meet the HX6065, a mixed module for AC measurement and 4 analog voltage and current outputs. Developed by our R&D team, the equipment comes to give even more flexibility to the Series regarding the measurement and regulation processes of quantities.
