Designed for flexibility and easy installation, the Connect Series of Ethernet switches and media converters is the perfect solution to boost productivity in various industrial sectors. With a compact, durable design and an IP30 protection rating, these devices are built to withstand harsh conditions across a range of industries.

The Connect Series devices are packed with smart tools that give you full control and management of your projects. Using the Network Management System (NMS), you can centralize performance and equipment tracking, helping to reduce network traffic. To maintain secure and reliable operations, these devices are equipped with anti-looping and anti-ping features. These functions prevent external devices from establishing simultaneous connections to the switch’s Ethernet interface, avoiding process manager overload and system crashes.

When combined with other products from the company’s well-established lines, the Connect Series devices form a robust, high-performance architecture that meets the needs of both domestic and international markets. With multimode configuration, you can pair the series’ media converters with Nexto CPUs, creating a ring architecture. This setup ensures access to digital and analog I/O modules at distances of up to 2 km without compromising performance.

Capable of Operating in the Most Critical Atmospheres

The compact and robust design of the series’ equipment allows it to be used in harsh environments, such as industrial plant control rooms and electrical substations, without compromising network traffic. With an IP30 security rating, the products are protected against solid particles up to 2.5 mm, as well as impacts, vibrations, corrosion, and rust. Their aluminum casing not only provides greater strength and durability but also enhances the devices' cooling capacity, enabling them to operate in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations.

Ideal for Distributed Systems

The high data transmission capacity, combined with elevated throughput and support for up to 64 bytes per packet, makes the Connect Series products an excellent solution for long-distance connection systems. Compact and efficient, the MET2-0201-M is an Ethernet/fiber optic media converter supporting MODBUS TCP and EtherCAT protocols. The device, which uses multimode fiber 50/125 μm and 62.5/125 μm with a wavelength of 1310 nm and SC-type connector, can maintain multiple connections up to 2 km.

Advanced Network Management Features

Through the Network Management System (NMS), performance and accounting management of network-connected devices can be centralized, reducing network traffic. Designed specifically for industrial environments with critical applications, NMS provides a comprehensive platform for monitoring, configuring, and maintaining IP-based communication networks, such as those found in industrial automation architectures, mining, substations, and maritime and military applications.

Available for free download from the Altus website, the software supports the monitoring of up to 16 devices. NMS features include:
- Management of IP-based devices from a central office and remote locations
- Automatic network discovery and topology visualization
- Device configuration via SNMP, web, Telnet, and SSH
- SNMP v1/v2c/v3 browser and SNMP MIBS compiler
- MSR group management (network redundancy protocol)
- Performance manager to reduce network traffic

Ensuring Network Stability and Availability

Unlike conventional network rings that have only one manager, the Connect Series can operate in redundancy mode using the Multiple Super Ring (MSR) architecture. This feature, available in the ET5-0802-M model, prevents issues in critical points and ensures network stability and control.

Another feature that enhances the high availability concept of Altus’ managed switches is the speed of their process restoration routine. The series' equipment has a failure recovery time of up to 5 ms and link recovery of 0 ms, ensuring fast and stable operation.
