Control System for Access to the Breakwater Area
The Samarco Mining facility, located in Ubu, Espírito Santo, chose Altus technology to implement a storm surge safety system.
Control access to the breakwater area and warn workers about possible risks
The Altus PLC evaluates storm surge risks and activates the traffic lights
A web-based system powered by NODE-Red makes HTTP requests to the server holding the data
The system is also connected to the Ubu Port IIoT Portal via the MQTT protocol
A arquitetura implementada utiliza dois CLPs XP340, modelo mais avançado da Série XP, para calcular o risco de ressaca e realizar o acionamento dos semáforos que indicam o perigo de acesso ao local. A solução desenvolvida conta com um sistema web baseado em NODE-Red para fazer consultas do tipo HTTP ao servidor que contém os dados enviados pelos sensores embarcados na boia instrumentada em alto mar, utilizada para coletar informações sobre o clima e as variáveis que precedem o momento distúrbio do oceano. O sistema, então, envia estes dados para o controlador através do protocolo de comunicação OPC UA.
If wave heights exceed the pre-set threshold in the logic, the PLC turns on the red light, signaling that the area is at risk from a storm surge. If the PLC goes more than one hour without receiving new wave height data, the yellow light activates, warning of potential risk. If the wave height remains within safe limits, the green light allows access to the area.
The system is also connected to the Ubu Port IIoT Portal via MQTT, a widely used standard in IoT applications, allowing for remote monitoring and manual control of the traffic lights when necessary.
