Automation System for Electrical Subsystems
Altus was selected to design and implement the automation system for the electrical subsystems at the stations and the Vital Brasil Substation on the Yellow Line of the metro in São Paulo, Brazil.
Consolidated and centralized data for the maintenance of the electrical subsystems
Streamlined diagnostics that make it easier to identify issues, improving equipment reliability
Lower operational costs through automated control, reducing the need for multiple operators per shift
The system also enhances the centralization of operational data, making processes more efficient
The panels installed by Altus at the Vital Brasil Substation are responsible for managing the SDY (High Voltage System), SDM (Medium Voltage System), and SDCCAD (Low Voltage System).
The SDY panel handles control of the substation's input lines, automatically monitoring and operating disconnectors and circuit breakers within the bays. Communication is facilitated via the DNP 3.0 protocol, which also monitors protections for lines, transformers, and breakers through the protection relays.
In the SDM, equipment is responsible for communicating with Areva protection relays using DNP 3.0, collecting critical protection data. This panel manages the control of medium-voltage circuit breakers and disconnectors.
The SDCCAD oversees the low-voltage power supply, covering lighting panels, elevators, escalators, ventilation systems, auxiliary services, and the traction system.
The system includes a set of non-redundant programmable controllers with input and output modules housed in an electrical panel. This setup controls and monitors key equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, diode supervision, local command switches, temperature, and electrical variables.
Commands are executed via CBO-type digital outputs (“Check Before Operate”) and SOE-type digital inputs, allowing for event recording with millisecond precision. The PLC connects with protection relays through a network, gathering event data and electrical measurements.
